Southside Dance Classes

Were started by Glenis Boyd in Melbourne's south in the mid eighties. Since then she has held classes at various different locations in the area such as the Carrum Downs Memorial Hall, Patterson Lakes Community Centre, Somerville Hotel, Seaford Football Club and the Tyabb Cool Stores.

Classes are currently being held five times a week in the following locations, Dandenong, Cheltenham, Frankston, Seaford and Baxter.

Glenis began taking ballroom dancing lessons at age ten and continued till she was sixteen when she became a 'Go Go' dancer. She performed in a cage suspended behind the band at various locations in Frankston such as Penny Lane and the Pink Elephant (the Royal Hotel). Although the pay wasn't much she was doing something she enjoyed.

A natural dancer she was always able to Rock and Roll and remembers attending Sunday Rock and Roll dances on skates at the Moorabbin Ice Rink. She began taking Rock and Roll more seriously when invited to attend lessons by friends. It wasn't long before Janet and Ray were training her as a teacher. Again she was being paid for something she loved doing.

Over the years she has taught thousands of people, from ages seven to seventy, to Rock and Roll. Daughter Dianne, has been teaching since she was thirteen and is a qualified dance instructor.
